Chinese telecom vendor Huawei first in building 4G network in USA

Chinese telecom gear maker Huawei Technologies is a finalist for a contract to build the fourth-generation wireless network for U.S. Cellular Corp , the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

Also, Huawei is in talks with federal, state and local government agencies in the United States to provide wireless technology to build the country's first nation-wide public safety network, the WSJ said.

Huawei was founded by a People's Liberation Army soldier, and opponents say it retains links with China's security services. Huawei has denied the links, but the suspicions have torpedoed other U.S. deals in the past.

Huawei gave up a bid for 3Com in 2008 due to security concerns, and last year, U.S. Republican lawmakers raised national security concerns about its bid to supply equipment to Sprint Nextel Corp .
