Revenue Of Indian Telecom Equipment Sector Declines 2.52% In 2010-11

Revenues of the Indian telecommunication equipment business declined 2.52%, which stood at Rs 117,039 crore in the last financial year as compared to Rs 120,069 crore in 2009-10
This declaration has been made by a survey conducted by a telecom industry journal.
The survey covered more than 500 telecom equipment firms in the Indian market, covering enterprise communication tools, carrier equipment and user device makers.
As per the 16th annual telecom industry survey, by telecom journal CyberMedia, nearly half of the telecommunication equipment income came from carrier equipment makers that witnessed a decline of 12.12% to hit Rs 58,294 crore in 2010-11.
During the same period of 2009-10, the section recorded registered grosses of Rs 66,332 crore.
The enterprise equipment vertical grew at 0.87 percent to report revenues of Rs. 24,023 crore for the same period under review from Rs. 23,815 crore in previous financial year.
The user device section added over one-third to the income of the telecom equipment business at Rs. 34,722 crore, registering an increase of 16.04%.
Handset maker Nokia recorded the maximum revenue in 2010, accompanied by telecommunication network equipment majors such as Nokia Siemens Networks, Ericsson, Cisco and software giant Wipro.
The other players in the top 10 comprised Samsung, Huawei, Tech Mahindra, TCS and ZTE.
Mr. Ibrahim Ahmed, group editor, Voice&Data said, "Riding on the entry into the 3G era, 2010-11 promised to be a great year for the telecom industry but it recorded a negative growth of 2.5 percent to report revenues of Rs. 117,039 crore. The telecom infrastructure industry failed to bag orders in view of the security concerns raised by the government."
