Huawei wins biggest share of LTE contracts

Chinese vendor Huawei has won the most commercial LTE agreements to date, beating the world’s largest mobile equipment vendor Ericsson, according to new research from TeleGeography. The research claims that Huawei has signed 18 contracts for commercial LTE deployments – “more than any other vendor” – including deals with major players such as TeliaSonera in Scandinavia, Vodafone Germany and China Mobile. However, it counters the claim with its belief that Ericsson is the leading vendor in terms of value and size of contracts.

In a separate report analysing the entire mobile network equipment contract space (all technologies, not just LTE), Dell’Oro ranks the top four players in the third quarter as: Ericsson, followed by Huawei, Nokia Siemens Networks and Alcatel-Lucent. The research firm said that Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent enjoyed the biggest market-share gains in the period, which saw worldwide revenue for wireless network equipment hit US$8.41 billion. It expects the market for wireless equipment to grow about 5 percent next year.
