Scope of Work:
• Work with Operational Data Network (ODNet) team and Signaling team supporting
• Sigtran signaling system seven (SS7) routing, testing, turn up and troubleshooting on the ODNET transport network.
• This person will need to have a good understanding of Sigtran systems along with good knowledge of LAN/WAN routing / switching and good trouble shooting skills on Cisco network elements.
• Must be able to communicate with the SS7 Signaling team and the ODNET LAN/WAN routing team in the protocol they each understand.
• The position will report to the Signaling manger with dotted line to IP CORE manager on items related to ODNET network.
Essential Duties:
• Perform Sigtran testing on routers and switches as defined by Signaling team.
• Work with ODNET team to make changes to network as required to support Sigtran needs.
• Assist where requested to trouble shoot problematic network connections and resolve issues.
• Assist where requested in simple projects including documentation updates, record keeping and VISO drawing updates.
• Assist ODNET team where requested for VPN access to ODNET network in support of STP vendor access to network elements.
• Using ODNET monitoring functions (mrtg - nam - ipsentry - syslog) help in the over daily status checks for overall health of Sigtran network elements.
• Using ODNET performance system help create KPI's, alerts for NOC and report creation for Signaling network as it relates to Sigtran.
Education/Experience/Technical Skills:
• VPN, IPSEC, SCTP, Cisco Router and Switch IOS CLI, Cisco Access List, Microsoft office products s such as VISO, word and excel, Cisco 7600, Cisco 4948, Cisco
• IDSM, Various Cisco device management Java applets.
• Knowledge of numerous networking technologies including spanning-tree, routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP), various layer-2 and layer-3 LAN/WAN protocols (Ethernet/GigE/10GigE, PPP, HDLC, SONET, MPLS, etc.), load-balancing, contentfiltering, and monitoring tools and SS7 (signaling system seven) with Sigtran knowledge.
• 5 - 7 years of experience with Cisco equipment and software
• 5 - 7 years of experience with SS7 with knowledge of Sigtran
• CCNA is required - will consider candidate with more experience if the knowledge is in the right field.
