Bahrain's incumbent telecom operator, Batelco Group, has selected Chinese vendor, ZTE, to provide it with wireless technology including 2G and 3G equipment.
Batelco has already worked with ZTE on various projects including Atheeb Telecom, its WiMAX operation in Saudi Arabia, Umniah in Jordan, and STel in India.
In India, ZTE deployed a new network across various circles for mobile operator STEL, Bahrain's joint venture in India, with more than 3,000 sites now live.
Batelco had more than 7.5 million mobile subscribers and 233,000 broadband customers across Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and India as of Q3, 2010.
