Former CEO of the Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo is urging the Finnish state to support entrepreneurs in the software sector. Kallasvuo proposes attracting Russian capital to finance the industry.
Kallasvuo, who is currently the chairman of the board of directors at Nokia Siemens Networks, pointed out that Finland’s eastern neighbour has plenty of capital which could offer many opportunities to Finland’s information and communication sector.
“Now that Nokia has undertaken a massive change in strategy, which will free up a lot of resources, this is providing the possibility to focus on this area, since there are many great, loyal, capable people there,” Kallasvuo said at the SuomiAreena event in Pori. “I know that many of them will want to start their own company.”
Kallasvuo underlined a need to decide which field Finland will embrace to succeed among international competition. He said that, if this were up to him, he would make Finland a country where the software sector flourished.
“I strongly believe that the software sector is an area where Finland can distinguish itself,” he said.
