Cabling specialist plans to tap strong growth potential in MEA region.
Swiss cabling specialist R&M officially opened its new Middle East and Africa headquarters in Dubai Airport Free Zone this week.
The new HQ will serve as a regional hub for distribution and will also allow the firm to offer customised products and services to its customers.
The hub, which currently has a workforce of about 20 people, includes a distribution centre, an assembly plant, a training room and offices.
The new plant allows for the assembly and customisation of R&M's copper and fibre products including its advanced FTTx gear, with customisation monitored by Swiss technical staff.
Peter Reichle, COO, R&M, and the son of the company's founder, told itp.net that he sees particularly strong demand in the MEA region.
"There is a huge potential here, everybody wants to communicate faster and faster and our products are related to this.
"We would like to be here for a long time. We never invest for the short term. If we invest somewhere we like to have sustainability in the region," he added.
Speaking to delegates at the inauguration ceremony, Reichle added that R&M intends to use the hub to offer a greater level of specialisation to its customers in the region, including telcos such as Etisalat.
He added that the new base will also allow R&M to respond to the demand of the local market far more quickly than would otherwise be possible.
Jean Pierre Labry, R&M's managing director for the Middle East and Africa, added that the hub would allow the company's customers to have "the benefit of R&M's renowned Swiss quality coupled with greater flexibility, customisation, and speed to implementation."
R&M was founded in 1964 and is headquartered in Switzerland.
