During the P&T/Expo Comm China 2010 held in Beijing from October 11 to 15, the Chinese telecom equipment makers Huawei and ZTE displayed their own branded tablet computer products, which claimed to be lighter, thinner, and cheaper than iPad, the tablet computer made by Apple.
Huawei's tablet computer product reportedly adopts the Android 2.1 system and can realize applications via cloud computing platforms; while ZTE's tablet computer boasts a seven-inch full touch screen, embedded camera with three million pixels, and can carry 3G communication modules of different modes. According to Ji Zhongwei, director for ZTE's smartphone system department, its new product is expected to be put into the market at the end of 2010 using an Android-based operating system.
Compared with Apple's operating system, the Android system adopted by ZTE has better compatibility and is more open, according to the ZTE representative. In addition, its software will be cheaper than that used on iPad.
Overall pricing for the devices has still not been released by either company.
