BlackBerry maker creates UAE alliances

Etisalat and Du are to partner Research In Motion with regulator’s approval to offer mobile banking services.

Research In Motion has struck a series of partnerships with the UAE telecoms regulator and two state-backed operators. The BlackBerry maker formed partnerships with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and two telecom operators, Etisalat and Du.
RIM unveiled an array of commercial tie-ups with the UAE entities, including plans to roll out mobile banking and online payment systems in the Middle East. It is also looking offer a BlackBerry application that will allow Dubai-based users to pay utilities bills through smartphones.
The tie-up will also support the TRA’s mandate to encourage, promote and develop the telecom and information technology industry in the UAE and across the region.
