France wants country on 4G mobile phones by 2015

France's government aims to have 99 percent of the population covered by fourth-generation mobile phone technology by 2015, French Industry Minister Eric Besson told Europe 1 radio on Sunday.
Mobile operators in France will be able to buy the next generation licenses from the spring or early 2011, according to French telecoms regulator Arcep.
"We will demand an ambitious, demanding rate. We are going to ask that within 15 years, 99 percent of the French population be covered by at least two network operations," Besson said.
The minister said France would prioritize competitiveness, wide coverage across the country and guaranteeing state interests during the sale of lucrative slices of what he said was the "rare and therefore expensive" 800 megahertz frequency.
