Chinese telecommunications company Huawei's decision to establish a European distribution centre in the Hungarian city of Pécs could create thousands of jobs, mayor Zsolt Páva said on Friday, after returning from a trip to China.
"Although I don't know a concrete number, my partners at the talks clearly signaled that a serious number of workers will be necessary, which means several thousand," Páva said.
Huawei Technologies Hungary managing director Gavin Dai told MTI in April that Huawei is stepping up production at its supply centre in Hungary. The expansion of production and logistics services will make Hungary Huawei's second-biggest supply centre and one of its most important foreign investments, said Gavin Dai.
Huawei established its Europe Supply Center (ESC) in Hungary as an experiment in 2009, and now the 20-month test period has been successfully completed. Last year, the centre exported $600 million of product and this is expected to double in 2011.
The strategic step will "create a large number of jobs in Hungary", Gavin Dai said in April.
